Where art meets inquiry: collaborative residency sparks creative changemaking
From May 14th to 17th, Royal Roads University hosted a three-day residency, bringing together researchers, postgraduate students, artists, and arts facilitators to engage in collaborative inquiry and creative exploration. Organized annually by the Mobile Research Lab and Professor Taiwo Afolabi from the University of Regina’s Centre for Socially Engaged Theatre, this year the residency was held in partnership with Dr. Deniz Ünsal from MAIIC at RRU. The residency welcomed approximately 30 participants from Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and Vancouver Island.
It provided a reflective space to examine art and community-based research as tools for social transformation, fostering creative approaches to complex challenges. It concluded with a Festival of Art and Discourse, where participants shared work across disciplines, exemplifying the potential of collaborative, interdisciplinary practice to inspire innovative changemaking.
