Dr. Geo Takach is a professor at Royal Roads University, based in the School of Culture and Society while also teaching in the School of Environment and Sustainability and in the School of Business. In his quarter-century of teaching, Geo has embraced a merry multitude of aspects of communication and culture. His recent work includes the book, Environmental Communication and Conciliation, published by Bloomsbury, and the feature film, Shih (Interconnectedness), slated for a public screening during RRU’s Climate Week in November. Geo’s extensive work as a professional communicator, writer and filmmaker spans hundreds of publications in speeches, print, film, radio, television and video, and online.
Changemaking Through Storytelling, Humour and Speech
This workshop invites you to engage in a strategic approach to personal, community and/or public storytelling aimed at helping to inspire positive change. Humour plays a key role here, not only for relating to ourselves, each other, and our broader human joys and predicaments, but also for exploring potentially sensitive, controversial and/or polarizing topics, and making meaning together. My goals are to help you express issues important to you; to appreciate and focus on your audience; and to lean into the late, great Victor Borge’s credo — “Laughter is the shortest distance between two people” — as we reflect on who we are, what we value and what we have to say as we share our stories, seek common understandings and build better worlds together.
